First Annual Shoot Out

On a very chilly morning in October, a crowd of about 40 folks gathered at Blackjack’s Sporting Clays in Sumterville, FL for a “shoot out” to benefit Xtreme SOULutions.

33 shooters took on the challenging Orange Course and tried to hit the highest number of clay pigeons. When the dust had settled, the first place prize went to Sonny BBQ team with 248 points. Second place was taken by Your Home Sold Guaranteed Realty with 216 points and third was Triple Crown Trailers with 210 points.

But everyone was a winner when lunch was served, courtesy of Sonny’s BBQ – pulled pork with slaw and mac n cheese, followed by their famous banana pudding.

A brief overview of what Xtreme SOULutions does was presented by President, Blaine Whitt and Chairman of the Board, David Cope. Kimberly Whitt shared a recent success story and Warden Varnes from Marion Correctional Institution testified to the strength and effectiveness of the XS program – referencing his 31 years in the prison system, he declared that this was the best program he had experienced!

We are so grateful to the local businesses that sponsored the event and to the additional donors who helped make the day a great success.

Peer to Peer fundraising

A Peer to Peer (P2P) Fundraiser doesn’t have to do a lot of work! Do you post on FaceBook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok or your own website? Then all you need to do is occasionally mention the great work that Xtreme SOULutions is doing in the community and encourage your followers to support our efforts. If you have a personal story to share about how our ministry has impacted you or a loved one, that is all the better. But if you don’t, feel free to peruse our story posts and tell about one of the guys who has participated.

You can be an Influencer for the Kingdom of God by telling others about the life changing work Xtreme SOULutions is doing with the incarcerated of Marion County!

We’re Back!

We are happy to report that after a year of COVID-19 restrictions, we are now back in action at MCI. We’ve been assigned a new facility to house our classes and with the help of some generous donors, we’ve been able to re-finish the floor, provide some new folding tables and generally spruce up the place for our students.

Of course there are still limitations on class size, etc., but our volunteers are delighted to be back “inside” with their guys and the guys are more than happy to have us back, teaching, exhorting and encouraging them to be all that God created them for. Please keep us all in prayer as we work within the news rules and restrictions designed to make the situation safe for all.

All praise and thanks to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, for His grace and mercy as several of our team were afflicted by the virus but were able to make a full recovery.

TV Alert

We are so excited to be a part of WUFT’s new series “The Greater Good.” Their top-notch production team has put together a 6-minute segment about Xtreme SOULutions, that will begin airing on WUFT TV (Channel 5 on Spectrum & Cox in Ocala: Channel 3 in the Gainesville area) at 8:30pm this Friday, May 28. Be sure to tune in and hear some great testimonies and a word or two from our leaders.

Big Thank You

We are so excited and grateful to the Community Foundation of Marion County/Ocala for their recent donation of 80 stacking chairs, 62 office chairs and a file cabinet. This was an answer to our prayers as we moved into a new space at Marion CI – it’s looking pretty spiffy now with our freshly painted blue floors, white folding tables and the new grey chairs.  We appreciate the generosity of our community for all the donations that make our work possible.

Class: Manhood – Instructor-Assistant Elijah H.

Where does man fit into the big picture? Many of us lack understanding of who we are and what purpose we serve. What I learned in my Tuesday night class “Manhood,” taught by Pastor James Young, is that it boils down to a matter of God’s Kingdom vs. Religion. The fall of man left a vacuum; an emptiness left in man as a result of his separation from God. Religion is man’s response to the vacuum. In other words, religion is man trying to find reason, purpose, and the significance of our purpose.

People everywhere are the same, looking for the same answers to the same questions, Who am I? Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going? God has a plan and it was revealed when His son Jesus Christ began His ministry saying, “The Kingdom of God is at hand, repent, and believe in the Gospel” (Mark 1:14-15). So God has called man to be His family and have dominion over the earth, as was originally in motion (Gen 1:26-28). All in all, the Gospel of the Kingdom answers the most sought questions of mankind:

  1. Who am I? A being created in the image and likeness of God.
  2. Where did I come from? Created created and made me.
  3. Why am I here? To love God and my neighbor and to reign on earth.
  4. Where am I going? It depends on the choices that I make.
  5. Can I beat death, and if so, how? I don’t have to. Jesus has already defeated death for me.

Class: Praise and Worship – by Eric H.

I am grateful to be a part of a great class such as Praise & Worship every Tuesday night at the Multipurpose Building. Being able to witness awesome music videos by strong Christian artists and praising the good Lord’s name, is such a joyful experience. The volunteer, Buddy Lewis, is a humble man of God. I first met Buddy at the previous Kairos Weekend Retreat, #14. He is so easy to talk to that I am able to open up to him almost instantly. All he really desires is that we clear our minds and open our hearts to worship the Lord and meditate on some powerful music. I recommend this class to all Xtreme SOULutions members. Thank you.

Class: Christian Life – Instructor-Assistant Adam E.

My class, Christian Life, with instructor Mike D’Alonzo is remarkable. The whole class is on the edge of their seats as Mike brings the word to life. His class on works without grace had a profound influence upon me as it encouraged me for the future ahead. Thank you Mike D for sharing the word with the brothers, who, without it would be silent in the spirit. It takes courage to have 28 men riveted to their seats, and that’s what Mike has done.
